Really shows how much power these engines can make! But I would think cost has something to do with it. They're trying ot make this affordable for everyone. Possibly even weight has something to do with it as well. The Cosmo over in Japan with the 20B is a luxory car. This RX-8 is aimed at being a sports sedan. From what Ive read its actually about the same weight or a few pounds lighter than the 3rd gen RX-7. Mazda always has seemed to be concerned with weight and there sports cars/sedans. Back when the 3rd gen was being designed, the main engineer had a lot of pressure from his bosses to use a 3-rotor engine. But he knew that a 3 rotor would be a heavier engine, which in turn needs a heavier stronger chassis, suspension, cooling system, etc. Rumor has it that the next gen Miata will have a rotary engine option and they're might even be another RX-7 some years down the road?
